Shin Akimoto, who has been reviewing for Japan’s Moonshiner Magazine for some 30 years went wild for Louisa Branscomb’s folk & bluegrass hit album Gonna Love Anyway: “A new release from Louisa Branscomb after 8 years. Louisa became famous as a songwriter after Alison Klauss recorded her composition ‘Steel Rails.’
“Opening of the new album is ‘Gone’ with a banjo and fiddle intro by Charlie Cushman (bj) and Deanie Richardson (f) followed by a stunning chorus by Dale Ann Bradley, Tina Adair and Steve Gulley. Other songs included are ‘Gonna Love Anyway’ by Molly Tuttle (g), Sierra Hull (m) and Jim Hurst, “Barefoot Girl” where you can hear Becky Buller’s clawhammer style banjo and duet with Russell Moore, ‘End of the Line’ features Alison Brown (bj) and ‘Freight Train for a Song’ demonstrates a phenomenal harmony by Jim Hurst added to an exquisite vocal by Claire Lynch. In addition to those female vocals, you will also enjoy good male vocal songs; a solid high lonesome style ‘Blue Moon Blues’ by David
Peterson (g), Mike Compton (m), Shad Cobb (f), Kristin Scott Benson (bj), ‘There’s No Marker on Our Grave’ with Johnny & Jeanett Williams featuring Louisa’s clawhammer banjo, and ‘Riding Double on My Old John Deere’ by Josh Williams (g). “Blackbird in the Rain” sung by Louisa herself, and ‘Steel Rails’, an all star cast performance of 32 musicians are just breathtaking.”
Gonna Love Anyway stood at # 3 bluegrass and #1 traditional bluegrass – for the sixth week – on the Roots Music Report chart for November 9th. The album was previously #1 bluegrass on August 24th and October 5th. It has been in the top 11 bluegrass since July 27th. Gonna Love Anyway has been on the FolkDJ chart since June and spent an impressive seven weeks on the NACC Folk chart. Airplay has included two songs on the syndicated edition of Rich Warren’s “Midnight Special” from WFMT.
